WIMPIE MALAN - MD & PROFESSIONAL Quantity Surveyor

Work history:

Wimpie completed his B.Sc.(Quantity Surveyor) degree at the University of the Free State in 1984 and started at Clarence De Wet in Queenstown in March 1985 as a junior Quantity Surveyor. In 1988, Wimpie opened a branch office in Empangeni for CDL which he ran till 2005 when he moved to the office in Midrand. Wimpie took over the running of the practice from then until now over and above his normal duties as Quantity Surveyor and Project Management. During his 33 years Wimpie was involved in virtually all type of building and civil projects and since 2005 when working from Gauteng he became more involved in residential projects which include Estate developments, Lifestyle Villages, upmarket Apartment blocks, etc.

Thys De Wet - Founder Director & Professional Quantity Surveyor

Work history:

Thys qualified as Quantity Surveyor at University of the Orange Free State in 1977. His first employment was with Rens and Clarence in the Eastern Cape where he was offered a partnership in 1980.
Since the commencement of his employment, Thys opened and managed branch offices in Queenstown, Durban and in 1997 he finally moved to the Johannesburg branch where he is today. In his 40 years as Quantity Surveyor in the building industry, Thys was privileged to be exposed to the whole spectrum of construction and development of building and civil related works.

Franken Stassen - Director & Professional Quantity Surveyor

Work history:

Franken started working at the company as a scholar (Gr 10/Std 8). He has been with the company all his working years except during 1999 when he worked on the new Dubai airport (Concourse 1).
He started in Queenstown and have also worked in the Empangeni, Durban, Umtata offices before moving to the head office (Midrand) in early 2006.

Douglas Tsebe - Senior Quantity Surveyor

Work history:

Douglas joined CDL in 2003. He has more than 18 years experience as a Quantity Surveyor and one year experience in Project management. He had the opportunity to work in various sectors such as Residential, Industrial, Retail, Education and Commercial. Over the past few years, he specialised in the Education sector working mainly on government projects such as Schools and Libraries in Kwa-Zulu Natal and North West Province.

WILLEM MALAN - Quantity Surveyor

Work history:

Willem joined CDL in January 2010 as a student Quantity Surveyor and achieved his honours degree in Quantity Surveying through distance learning from the University of the Freestate in 2013. He became involved in all aspects of Quantity Surveying on various projects and proved to play a valuable role in assisting in the production and administrative oversight of these projects.

Bernard van der Merwe - PROFESSIONAL QUANTITY SURVEYOR
Work history:

Bernard joined CDL in July 2019 as a Professional Quantity Surveyor. He completed his BSc Quantity Surveying at the University Of Pretoria in 2013. He also completed his BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying degree at the University Of Pretoria in 2015 while working as a Candidate Quantity Surveyor at Professional Quantity Surveying practices. Over the past few years, he has gained experience in various types of projects including residential homes, storage facilities, mixed-use and commercial office buildings.

Tsholofelo Mosalaesi - Junior Quantity Surveyor

Work history:

Tsholofelo is a Candidate Quantity Surveyor employed by the Department of Public Works – North West Province. She joined CDL in 2018 on a full-time basis as an intern for a 3 year period in order to gain experience to enable her to register as a professional Quantity Surveyor. Her mentor at CDL is Wimpie Malan, a professional registered Quantity Surveyor.

Nerisha Bhowan - Executive PA & Projects Bookkeeper

Work history:

Nerisha joined CDL in 2001 as a Personal Assistant to Mr Thys De Wet. In 2002 she was given the opportunity to work on her first Development Project performing full Financial Management and Bookkeeping duties. Since then she has been involved in various Multi-Million Rand projects.
Cindy Andrews - Executive PA & Senior Company Bookkeeper

Work history:

Cindy joined CDL in 2006 as a Company Secretary and Personal Assistant to Mr Wimpie Malan. In 2010 she took over the role of CDL Bookkeeper and Payroll Administrator for the Company, assisting Mr Malan in the day to day running of the financial duties of CDL.

Not only have the three directors known each other for more than four decades, but CDL’s key personnel have also been with the company for between 15-20 years.

Originally established in 1976 as Clarence De Wet and Partners, the company has been intrinsically involved in the growth industry, the establishment of housing developments as well as the creation of shopping malls.

In 2011, Neo and Salala Lesela became shareholders and joined as directors. This resulted in a name change to Clarence De Wet Lesela.

Offering a wide range of services, backed by an extensive track record, CDL offers Quantity Surveying, Project Management and Project Administration.

CDL is internationally recognised for its standard of excellence. CDL directors and registered Quantity Surveyors are members of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors as well as the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors. In addition, CDL is a proud member of the Green Building Council.
